Explore the North Shore of Oneida Lake

Originally settled by native North Americans thousands of years ago, the French explorer Samuel de Champlain was the first European to visit Oneida Lake in 1615. Settlers were drawn to shore by the plentiful supply of fish, natural waterways, and abundant forests. The lakeside communities reflect the region’s colorful history, small town charm and beautiful vistas.

Captain Adrian LaSorte’s Guide Service is dedicated to providing flyfishers with the very best trout, salmon and saltwater flats fishing in the East.

Adrian has developed a special knowledge of New York’s Salmon River, and many of the tributaries lining the western edge of Lake Ontario, where trophy king and coho salmon and awesome lake-fed browns make their Fall and Spring spawning runs. Either streamside or from a driftboat, Adrian has helped his clients catch salmon in excess of 30 pounds, along with six- to ten-pound browns.

“The Salmon River is one of the best rivers for cohos and kings that I’ve ever fished and it’s among the best in the country,” Adrian says “It’s hard to believe the size of the fish this river produces, and the opportunity it offers the flyfisher for landing a fish that he or she will never forget.”

The technique used to target the Walleye’s on Oneida Lake is jigging and we had a boat custom built to do just that. The Dwight Owen, named after my grandfather, is a custom built Judge 27cc. It has 23 foot of deck space, 9 feet wide with a 12 degree dead rise. Its powered by a 300 Suzuki with a top speed of 42 mph. This gives us a very stable platform and the ability to move to different areas of the lake quickly. All tackle is stored in tackle lockers and under the gunnels, so casting is not an issue. All fishing tackle is provided for.

We are the place to be for a great trip. We have provided service to over 100,000 people. Capt. Mike started fishing Lake Ontario and Salmon River in the sixth grade back in 1976. He has been doing it professionally since 1988.

A lot of places in Pulaski say they are family owned for 25 years, what they don’t say is that there’s been four or five different families that’s owned it. Fish On! Motel has been owned and run by one person, Captain Mike for over 25 years! If you need some help and knowledge about this fishery, Captain Mike has more experience than anyone! Remember, since 1988 Captain Mike has not worked in any other area except fishing on Lake Ontario and the Salmon River. Captain Mike’s job is fishing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year… for over 25 years now!!! Try finding anyone in the area that can truthfully make this statement.

Oneida Lake

Referred to as the thumb of the Finger Lakes, Oneida is shallow, rocky, and full of smallmouth bass with plenty of largemouth bass as well. Having grown up in nearby Syracuse, I fished this lake a lot when I wasn’t at my Black Lake cottage or off to a tournament elsewhere.

New York allows pre-season catch and release for bass on Oneida beginning on May 1st. The lake is also very good in the fall. Shallow water techniques work fine here with a good mix of rocks and weeds.
