War of 1812

War of 1812 Bicentennial Peace Garden Trail Brochure

Come to Oswego County and explore our rich and unique heritage in area museums, historic sites and libraries. Learn about our residents and the vital roles they played to help shape the course of New York State and America.

We celebrate these contributions as part of the 200th Anniversary Commemoration of the War of 1812.

Many battles were won and lost throughout the state and country to preserve our newly-won freedoms. Here in Oswego County, as hundreds of our ancestors fought in battles along Lake Ontario, we have our own stories to tell about our role in the war; including the Battle of Oswego in 1814 and the Great Rope Carry that followed.

Join us as we commemorate our history, celebrate our freedom and learn about our heroes of the War of 1812. Over the next few years, we plan to host a variety of activities related to the war, including historical re-enactments, exhibits and lectures.
