Please join us in learning about the fascinating life of Oswego resident Elmina Spencer (1819 - 1912), who followed her husband in service during the American Civil War. Elmina served as the Matron and a nurse of the 147th New York Infantry Regiment hospital unit. She became an appointed government agent for the Army of the Potomac to assist in the overall care of sick and disabled soldiers. Throughout her life she would be remembered dearly by veterans for her heroic deeds during the war. Retired librarian, archivist and author Joyce Cook will share the life story of Elmina Spencer, using her written memoirs of wartime service. Photographs and documents will be on display.
The event is free and open to the public.

This is a fun project that will teach participants about horticulture, and the uses of plants in topiary artistic design. This program will also teach about plant requirements (soil, water, and air). The different contrast between types of plants, and the cost effectiveness of making your own as appose to purchasing one.
So come join the fun on June 10 for this hand on instructional class on how to make a living wreath. The program will be held at Oswego County Cooperative Extension in Mexico, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The cost will be $30 with sign up for the program by June 3.

The Oswego City Band will present weekly concerts in Breitbeck Park. Concerts feature classic marches, showtunes, popular movie music and other favorites. Jazz Band features big band favorites. Admission is free.

North Bay Campgrounds will be hosting its sixth Annual Fishing Derby on Lake Neatahwanta.
The event is set for June 29 from 10 a.m. until noon.
Registration desk opens at 9:30 a.m.
This event is free and open to the public.
Children ages 16 and under are welcome to attend and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
All children will be placed in three divisions depending on their age: Tadpole: age 6 and under; Perch: age 7-11; and Bass age 12 –16.
Prizes will be awarded for largest fish caught, smallest fish caught and the most fish caught.
There will also be a raffle for a new fishing rod for each age group.

The first American Freedom Train was created in 1947 to help celebrate our freedom after WWII. The exhibit includes an O Scale model of the train that would tour the country until 1949. There will be photos and souvenirs.
