Free Drawing in the Park Classes

Free Drawing in the Park Classes
South ParkJefferson St.Pulaski, NY 13142The Salmon River Fine Arts Center is offering free Thursday night “Drawing In the Park” outdoor classes at South Park in Pulaski, NY (across from the Art Center). These are drop-in classes and open to artists of all ages and experience levels. Paper and pencils will be provided, but feel free to bring your own sketchpad and favorite drawing utensils. Bring your own chair, sit on the grass or a bench. Draw from the environment or bring a reference photo to draw.
An instructor will be on hand to offer guidance, ideas, and critique.
To maintain safe physical distancing the following practice will be followed:
- Masks or face coverings must be worn at all times.
- A distance of six feet must be maintained with individuals you don’t live with.
- Art will be propped up for critique and guidance provided within a safe distance.
- Drawing tools will be wiped with disinfectant before and after use.
- Hand sanitizer will be available on site to use as needed during or after class.
Artists of all ages are welcome and all materials are provided. This event is made possible by a generous donation from Drs. Patricia and Jay Chapman.

The purpose is to give these individuals the opportunity to have their artwork publicly exhibited and professionally judged. This show and award ceremony is scheduled to be virtual this year. However, artwork will still be hung in the gallery.

Materials are supplied and included with your registration and available for curbside pick up the day before the class.
Classes for adults will be held every Tuesday morning, 10 a.m. – noon
Children’s classes will be Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.Space is limited. Projects and lessons will vary each week and will be taught by a variety of instructors. Some additional classes will be held on evenings and weekends. Check our schedule for updates.

Camera Basics and Photo Hike Class w/ Sara Fowler
Salmon River Fine Arts Center4848 North Jefferson St.Pulaski, NY 13142315-298-7007This two-part class starts with a one-hour virtual presentation and overview of the basic operation of a DSLR camera and tips and techniques to take great pictures. Afterwards, attendees will meet up in the parking lot on Maple Avenue (behind the End Zone in Pulaski.) From there, instructor Sara Fowler will take the group for a physically distancing compliant hike along the Salmon River and offer tips to capture its beauty, using design and compositional guidelines.
Thursday, July 16 2020 2-part class
Part 1: (Virtual) 1 – 2 p.m.
Part 2: Hike along the River 3 – 4 p.m.
Cost: $5This is a great opportunity for photographers to capture scenes worthy of entering into our Salmon River themed exhibition coming up, “Hooked on the Salmon River.” (The deadline for the show is July 31, see the prospectus here: salmonriverfineartscenter.com/pdf/Hooked-on-the-Salmon-River-Prospectus-2020.pdf).
This class is made possible thanks to funding from the John Ben Snow Foundation & Memorial Trust.
Space is limited to 12 students!Requirements: Students will need their own DSLR camera and comfortable walking shoes to hike in.

Join us for a virtual “Paint and Sip” class from the comfort of your own home! Meet up with friends online, or just take some time for yourself to paint and sip your favorite beverage. No prior painting experience necessary. Lauren Siskavich, your instructor will guide you step by step to complete a beautiful landscape painting. This is meant to be a fun couple of hours, to unwind, and stay connected with art. In this segment, we will be talking with Dr. Nicholas Sard, an Assistant Professor of Biology at SUNY Oswego. Dr. Sard uses genetic techniques to inform conservation, focusing on aquatic organisms like fish, otters, and turtles. One of the techniques Dr. Sard and his students use is eDNA (environmental-based DNA) sampling from water. Join us to learn more about this cutting-edge technique and how the Sard Lab is using it to study the fauna of Rice Creek!
