Ready for a taste of fresh, sweet, pure New York maple syrup?
Maple producers in the four-county region have announced their 2017 Maple Weekends tree tapping ceremonies and special events with free tastings, tours, syrup and confection-making demonstrations, recipes and treats for sale on March 18-19 and 25-26. Dress appropriately for weather and walking.
2017 Maple Weekends activities in Oswego County include:
Red Schoolhouse Maple: Tree Tapping Ceremony: Saturday, March 18, 2 pm, , 2437 County Route 4, Fulton, 315-243-1024; serving pancake breakfast 8 am-1 pm, fee. Free tours, sugar making movie, coloring, samples: 10:30 am-4 pm.
Maple Hill Farm: 86 Guernsey Rd., Hannibal, 315-593-2396. Wear boots to walk sugar bush woods. See oil-fired arch and steam away, syrup making and bottling since 2001.
Maple Hollow Farm: 1309 County Route 85, Hannibal. 315-564-7133. Free basket raffles. Self-guided sugar bush tour. Meet Emma the Big Brown Cow.
Yardley Maple: 524 County Route 64, Mexico. 315-380-1416. See sap filling holding tanks in sugar house, filters, reverse osmosis, you-try-it tapping demo in sugar house, samples.
