WinterTrails Report
January 18, 2024
This report is courtesy of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning.
Oswego County received a storm this week, bringing up to a foot of snow in some parts of the county. Many clubs are starting to open trails. Regular winter trails reports will continue weekly as clubs provide updates.
As humans prepare for the upcoming eclipse 🌞🌚🌞, don`t forget about the animals. Dogs🐕 may become more vocal or react as they would as if a thunderstorm was approaching. Cats 🐈 rarely have a reaction. Farm animals 🐄 like cows and sheep may act as if night were approaching and head for their barns. But no two animals are alike! If you have pets, know that they may need some extra attention (and maybe an extra treat or two!) that day. 🐾🐾
If you`re interested in being part of how nature reacts to the eclipse, sign up for NASA`s Eclipse Soundscapes Project (https://eclipsesoundscapes.org/observer.) Observations will be taken three times for ten minutes prior, during, and after the eclipse (30 minutes total.) Check out the link above to be part of citizen science! 🔬
(Thank you to Kristen Haynes, PhD, Assistant Director at @ozricecreek for her assistance with animal eclipse experiences!)
