Historic Maritime

Underground Railroad
Oswego County and its citizens played important roles in the abolitionist movement during the mid-1800s. Many became involved in the struggle to end slavery through politics or by providing assistance to slaves fleeing the south through the Underground Railroad. This extensive network includes 11 sites that have been honored with placement on the National Register of Historic Places (*).

Great Lakes Seaway Trail is 518 miles of signed connecting roads that skirt the water, through small towns in the countryside, maritime ports and cities. The diversity along with variety of architectural styles, forts, mansions, and structures built from local available materials provides lots of options.
Great Lakes Seaway Trail – Lighthouse Bicycling
Easy to follow Great Lakes Seaway Trail signage. Difficulty: highway shoulder width and traffic volume changes. Best for Experienced Bicyclist; make overnight reservation in advance.
